The process of analysing human milk with the Preemie System is designed to be simple and efficient. A small, homogenised sample (40 µL) is placed into the reusable Nurvette™, a patented cuvette holder with quartz slides specifically designed for the system. Once the closed Nurvette is inserted, the Preemie Sensor scans the sample.
The sensor connects via Bluetooth to the Milk Analysis Application (MAA) on a tablet, which initiates the scan and transmits the obtained NIR absorbance spectrum to the cloud-based SpecAI engine. The SpecAI platform processes the spectral data using calibrated machine learning models and returns a detailed nutrient profile, including:
- True Protein (g/dL)
- Total Fat (g/dL)
- Total Energy (kcal/dL)
- Total Fatty Acids (g/dL)
- Specific Fatty Acids (LA, ALA, ARA, and DHA in g/100g of total fatty acids)
Results are displayed graphically within the MAA and can be exported to NutriTrack if required.
For human milk analysis, the Preemie Sensor uses the Milk Analysis Application. For the analysis of other liquids, the SpecData software should be used to operate the sensor.
